Hand of Hopes CSR Programme at SMK Nilai Impian

The Registrar Office of UPM organised a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme together with SMK Nilai Impian

 
Nilai, 18th September 2023 - The Registrar Office, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) through the Intervention Services Section, Human Resource Services Division in collaboration with UPM Putra Bakti under the adjustment of the Centre for Strategy and Corporate Relations (PSPK), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has held Hands of Hopes which is a programme in the form of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) through the Community Tour Series with the theme of the concept of knowledge transfer located at SMK Nilai Impian, Nilai, Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus. This series of programmes which were implemented together with the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences (FBSB), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) involved 300 students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Nilai Impian, Nilai to foster students' interest in the field of science.
 
The organiser of the programme, Section of Intervention Services from Registrar Office, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) also had invited Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Aqlima Ahmad who is a Lecturer from Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as a co-speaker in addition to the main facilitator of the programme which is Mrs. Siti Fatimah Abdul Ghani, a Senior Psychological Officer and Head of Intervention Services Section, Human Resource Services Division, UPM Registrar Office. Also present was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syahida Ahmad, Head of Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noor Azmi Shaharuddin, also another Lecturer from Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science who also helped to fill the 'Career Exploration in the Field of Science' slot. In the slot, students could conduct science experiments through science exhibition and experiment slot provided by UPM FBSB together with UPM students participate in the programme. 
 
The arrival of the organisers was warmly welcomed by the counselling teacher Mrs. Normaizatul Farahin Satimin, who is also the Head of Guidance and Counselling Unit, SMK Nilai Impian together with two practical teachers namely Mrs. Ainul Balqis Azhar, and Mrs. Nur Ika Atiq Haziqah Amir Hamzah. Also joining together along the whole programme were Mrs. Haslina Hashim, Senior Assistant (Administration) of SMK Nilai Impian; Mr. Mohamad Zaini Khalid, Senior Assistant (Student Affairs); and Mr. Pu'at Mohd Haron, Senior Assistant (Co-Curriculum). The programme started at 10.00 a.m. with students lined up. Then followed by a welcoming remark and then the opening of the programme from Mrs. Normaizatul Farahin Satimin, the Head of the Guidance and Counseling Unit (representing the Principal of SMK Nilai Impian, Mdm. Natherah Mesbah who could not join due to unavoidable matters).
 
The implementation of this face-to-face programme is an initiative in knowledge sharing and activities to spread knowledge related to teenagers' self-motivation by develop an interest of school students' for science subjects and at the same time expose them to one of the branches of science based on the niche area of the facilitators. The participation of students in this programme is expected to be able to give civic awareness to students to increase their self-confidence and self-potential tendency in the field of science, especially for students who are interested in choosing their next field of study and career field in the future.
 
This programme was attended by about 300 students consisting of Form One and Form Three students of SMK Nilai Impian and received much arousing feedback which can be seen from their active and very positive involvement in every activity throughout the course of the programme, both in the activity of answering questions asked during lecture session and during student activities divided into groups according to the facilitator.
 
The programme, which has been successfully held as planned, was closed with appreciation and thankful remarks of both sides, namely Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and SMK Nilai Impian, as well as group photo sessions with everyone involved, including the students.
